Job description

APS Palo Verde is looking for Simulator Engineer Intern to join their team in Tonopah, AZ.



The Simulator Engineer Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience developing, troubleshooting, and testing, both hardware and software solutions for Palo Verde training simulators.

The intern project scope can be modified to align to an intern’s specialty and background.

Software solution development requires some proficiency programing and familiarity with computer programing languages (examples: python, C++, FORTRAN, etc.).

Hardware solutions may require the assembly of mini-PC, minor maintenance on simulator equipment, or development of custom parts using a 3D printer.

This position requires interactions with stakeholders across multiple departments including, the Nuclear Training Department, Engineering Department, and Operations Department.


The Palo Verde Summer internship is a paid 10 week program.

During the 10 weeks at Palo Verde you will be equipped with the tools needed to thrive and be challenged with meaningful individual and/or group projects.

You will get support from leaders who will help you succeed.

Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in a New Hire Orientation, Professional Development opportunities and company tours to learn more about Palo Verde and Arizona Public Service.


The Palo Verde Internship is a paid 10 week program starting in May, ending in July.

Qualified students will receive housing during the program.

Minimum Requirements

Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.2. (Approved Engineer Degrees: Physics, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, and Computer Science)


Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.


Official or unofficial transcripts must be attached to your online application at the time of submittal to be considered.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Experience with embedded development and digital signal processing.

  • Familiarity building computers and addressing hardware issues.


  • Some proficiency programing and computer programing languages (examples: python, C++, FORTRAN, etc.).

  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic discipline engineering principles

  • Practices and theories and use commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations

  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques

  • Major Accountabilities

    1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs.

    May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.



    2) Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews.

    Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.



    3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.



    4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.



    5) Performs other related duties as required.


    Nuclear requirement

    Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.

    Any PVGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.

    This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

    These are a condition of employment at PVGS.
