How you'll make an impact:
The Head of Music Licensing is responsible for setting and executing SiriusXM's music licensing strategy across all platforms (satellite radio, streaming, and digital services) and products (SiriusXM and Pandora).
This role leads a team of business and operational experts to manage relationships with rightsholders, navigate regulatory frameworks, and secure optimal licensing agreements that support innovation and growth.
What you'll do:
Strategic Leadership
Lead the end-to-end music licensing strategy across performance, mechanical, and master rights.
Devise innovative deal structures that strategically leverage our partnerships for sustained growth and unlock new business opportunities.
Anticipate industry trends and regulatory changes to proactively shape SiriusXM's position in licensing negotiations, CRB proceedings and policy discussions.
Collaborate with C-suite and business unit leaders to align licensing strategies with company goals and growth plans, particularly Content, Product, Marketing, Finance and Legal
Rights Management & Negotiation
Manage complex negotiations with PROs (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR), record labels, publishers, and collective rights organizations leveraging extensive industry relationships.
Oversee licensing for live radio, streaming, podcasts, and any emerging formats or products.
Optimize licensing cost structure while ensuring comprehensive rights coverage for programming.
Team & Operational Oversight
Lead and mentor a high-performing team across legal, finance, business affairs, and royalty operations.
Develop scalable processes for rights tracking, reporting, and compliance across all platforms.
Partner with Finance and Data Analytics teams to ensure accurate forecasting and royalty payment tracking.
External Relationships
Represent SiriusXM in key industry forums, trade organizations, and policy discussions.
Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with rights holders and music industry stakeholders.
What you'll need:
15+ years of experience in music licensing, rights management, or entertainment law-ideally in both broadcast and digital environments.
Deep knowledge of U.S. and global music licensing frameworks (e.g., statutory licensing, direct licensing, rate court).
MBA, J.D. or equivalent business experience preferred; strong partnership and commercial acumen required
Proven track record in high-stakes negotiations with labels, publishers, and PROs.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Passion for music and a nuanced understanding of artist, label, and publisher perspectives.
Experience operating within a public or highly regulated company.
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience.
These considerations can cause your compensation to vary.
We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $225,000-350,000 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives.
