Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and motivated Associate Editor to join our team and help propel the growth of Physician’s Weekly.

The ideal candidate should have an innovative approach to content creation, as well as the ability to take initiative and identify key needs to help the site reach its goals.

The Associate Editor will report to the Sr. Managing Editor of Physician’s Weekly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pitch, produce, and post content reporting on newly published research, clinical guidelines and industry trends relevant to the publication’s physician audience.

    Key areas of content focus will include cardiology, metabolic care/obesity, dermatology, pulmonology, neurology, gastroenterology, psychiatric/behavioral care, vaccines/infectious diseases.
  • Fact check and verify information to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Assist the editorial team on print poster content creation.

    Select, prepare, and work with design to ensure content is accurate.
  • Produce and edit text, video, and podcast content.
  • Confidently lead, record, and post interviews with experts in the field.
  • Attend conferences in person and virtually to report on key sessions and presentations, interview experts and attendees, and represent the organization professionally.
  • Monitor content performance and basic web/email analytics to support a data-driven content strategy.
  • Identify key industry trends relevant to the publication’s content strategy and propose strategies for coverage.
  • Track deadlines, content calendar entries, and scheduled posts to ensure all projects are on schedule.
  • Assist senior staff with content production, including conducting research, transcribing interviews, coordinating images, logging content updates, and working with video editors.
  • Show motivation to expand responsibilities, develop new editorial skills, and contribute to team growth.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with a strategic mindset, e.g. assessing the ongoing needs of the website, proactively identifying content gaps or new areas for coverage, and suggesting content directions.
  • Collaborate closely with the sr.

    managing editor to help execute the brand’s strategic vision and content planning, aligning editorial strategies with company goals and audience needs.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong writing & editing skills (AP style, AMA style, or scientific writing preferred)
  • Understanding of medical and scientific terminology preferred
  • Ability to interpret and summarize complex medical studies
  • Fact-checking & research skills (ensuring accuracy in reporting)
  • SEO & digital publishing knowledge (for online platforms)
  • Familiarity with peer-reviewed journals and regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, WHO, CDC)
  • Multimedia & social media skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or English (preferred) OR
  • Degree in Medicine, Public Health, or a Science-related field (especially for technical medical news)
  • Experience in journalism, editing, or publishing (1-3 years preferred—medical writing preferred)
