Software Development Manager, Prime Video Sports Availability Job Opening In Seattle – Now Hiring Mediabistro

Job description

Overview

Love sports?

Want to change the world?

Prime Video is re-inventing the live sports experience by merging high-quality live streaming, immersive interactive features, and exclusive access to some of the world's most loved sports properties.

The Prime Video Sports team is a single-threaded-owner, uniquely positioned to execute our vision across the entire PV stack to deliver compelling new experiences to customers.

If this sounds like the type of experience you'd like to help build, apply here and let's chat!

We are deeply connected with the idea that live sports events are fundamentally different: there is only one shot at delivering the moment until it is forever lost.

Our mission is to ensure customers never miss a single moment of the sports they love.

We deliver best-in-class live sports infrastructure, testing, monitoring, and operations to optimize delivery at scale.

Our team engineers for speed, quality, availability, and scale.

As PV has grown, we support more video products and face increased engineering complexity and load on services.

Our goal is to adapt our architecture to maintain velocity and keep services on and error-free 24/7, especially for high-profile, exclusive content.

With AI as a transformative force, we are at an inflection point to unlock opportunities in predictive analytics, automated defect analysis and mitigation, and automated operations.

What we're looking for

We are seeking a highly talented Software Development Manager to help build fast, scalable, robust systems that crystallize and execute this vision.

The successful candidate is a hands-on technical manager who sets a high bar for all phases of the software development life-cycle, while hiring, coaching, developing and growing a team of engineers.

We want someone with insatiable curiosity who can build and nurture an AI-native engineering team capable of leveraging emerging AI technologies in our solutions.

Your ability to foster a culture of innovation and adaptability will be key as we integrate AI throughout our engineering practices.

Key job responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers, including their projects, performance, and career growth
  • Communicate project roadmaps with your team, management, and principal stakeholders
  • Work with peer managers to scope and estimate development effort
  • Facilitate systems design, architecture, and scaling discussions
  • Advocate for the right outcomes with data, conviction, and diplomacy
  • Deliver innovative customer experience for world-wide customers
  • Hire and mentor highly talented engineers

A day in the life

  • Interact with leaders from product and/or other partner tech teams for conceptualizing, scoping and planning delivery
  • Manage project planning, task break-down, delivery and track status with your team
  • Communicate delivery status to stakeholders
  • Contribute to the vision, goals, and technical strategy in alignment with customer needs and market opportunities
  • Mentor engineers, provide leadership on complex technical issues, design trade-offs, and feature and schedule prioritization
  • Innovate on behalf of customer

About the team

  • We are a team who value diversity, respect, and inclusiveness.

We love mentoring and helping each other grow
  • Our technology choices and designs are driven from the engineers, not handed down from above
  • We have a lot of say for what goes into our product.

We get to pitch our ideas up the chain, not the other way around

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness
