S3 Keystone team is looking for a passionate, experienced software development manager to build services that will help us efficiently scale and manage the core infrastructure that drives S3 and Glacier.

As a leader of an S3 Keystone team you will be tackling some of the hardest computer science problems.

You will be building systems that can handle wildly varying access patterns and overwhelming load initiated by our users.

Leading and owning a flexible web service requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience leading large-scale distributed systems.

You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly not only about building good software but about making that software achieve its goals in operational reality.

Key job responsibilities
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet.

Through the use of pioneering techniques in distributed computing, developers are able to durably store their data on Amazon’s proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost..

Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web.

It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.

In this role you will be responsible for guiding the technical direction, team development, and operational excellence of key internal customer-facing functionality while partnering closely with senior technical leaders across the S3 organization along with EC2 and across AWS.

To meet and exceed our customers' expectations, you will drive software innovation, process automation, and infrastructure improvements through effective team leadership, technical mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration with product and program management teams.

A day in the life
You will interface directly with our internal customers and stakeholders across teams within different S3 and AWS organizations.

We have multiple new initiatives to provide visibility, self-service interfaces, reporting and interactive dashboarding capabilities to teams across S3.

You will be working on services which directly enable S3 to keep scaling in safe, secure and performant ways, with opportunities to work with senior and principal engineers across the organization.

About the team
Our organization is responsible for maximizing the security, health, utilization, scalability, agility, and performance of S3’s fleets.

Our primary goal is to ensure the security, durability, and availability of S3 customers’ data.

Our secondary goals include increasing utilization, improving efficiency of the S3 Storage fleet, and lowering marginal power usage and cost to ensure the long-term scalability of S3.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon is a total compensation company.

Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
