Azure is a global cloud platform that powers Microsoft services such as Microsoft Teams, Office, Bing, and SQL, as well as public cloud offerings for customers worldwide.

Capacity management—how workloads are allocated to servers, how access is granted, and how capacity buffers are maintained—is critical to Azure’s success.

The Azure Core team is investing in this area to enhance and optimize platform capacity management and efficiency capabilities.

As a Software Engineer II, you will join the Azure Compute Capacity Optimization Team (ACCOT) to deliver scalable capacity management services and optimized efficiency solutions.

You will work on fundamental layers of the Azure Control Plane technology stack, including the Azure Allocator and Holmes service, which manage workload migration across Azure datacenters.

You will also contribute to services such as Compute Capacity Central (CCC), which track and manage capacity usage, maintain buffers, and provide telemetry.

Your work will include designing solutions that allocate and migrate workloads efficiently within and across datacenters.

In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and partner teams across Azure Core to build services that improve customer experience and platform efficiency.

You will focus on availability, scalability, and operability for Azure compute platform capacity and efficiency.

**Responsibilities**

+ Design and develop distributed cloud software services and solutions that are engineered for scale, availability, high performance, and high reliability.
+ Own and deliver complete features including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, and shipping.
+ Lead the refinement of products through data analytics and make informed decisions in engineering products through data integration.
+ Collaborate with partner teams across the world to drive key platform capacity management capabilities and enhance customer capacity experience scenarios.
+ Deliver high quality of service to Azure customers through live-site excellence.
+ Advocate for best practices in software and data engineering.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ +1 years of experience in developing and supporting cloud-scale applications and live services.

**Other Requirements:**

+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
+ OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
