General Statement of Job General Statement of Job The Educational Technologies Specialist – Audiovisual Design is responsible for assisting the Audio Visual Systems Designer with various aspects of project work including system design/recommendations, meeting/interacting with requesting clients, correspondence, site visits, parts list and drawing creation.

Other duties could include, on an as needed basis: supervising employees, developing work schedules and implementing Educational Technologies procedures.

  • Assists the Audio Visual Systems Designer with system designs including equipment research, equipment specification gathering, and availability status.
  • Assists in creating RFP and RFQ documents to detail required items and scope of work involved as needed per project.
  • Supports instructional and institutional audio visual needs.
  • Assists in creating/providing various documents to assist the Manager of Educational Technologies Installations to have a complete project packet which could include parts lists, system drawings, room illustrations, and general notes.
  • Assists with, or oversee, install, and configuration of equipment according to designated layout.
  • Works with desktop software/hardware to ensure connectivity with audio visual equipment.
  • Performs and/or oversees audio visual installations to industry and institution standards.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all types of instructional technologies equipment.
  • Leverages expertise to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, and devises effective solutions for improved functionality.
  • Assists with training and supporting faculty and staff to use instructional technologies.
  • Assists with maintaining Educational Technologies inventory.
  • Duplicates, edits, and compresses audio and video files to ensure they are in the correct formats and compatible with different devices.
  • Ensures the safe storage and integrity of data.
  • Ensures the safe transfer and shipment of equipment.
  • Assists in setup, support, and troubleshooting of college-wide special event production.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in audio visual hardware and software.
  • Is able and equipped to complete typical tasks remotely as needed.
  • Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership, Information Technology or other related field required.
  • At least three (3) years of audio-visual technology or related work experience in a similar work environment, required.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of audiovisual equipment including hardware, signal types, interconnects, and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of system control formats and how connected AV equipment functions as a system.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Familiarity with the operation, maintenance, and installation of audiovisual equipment including fundamentals of light and sound; concepts of microphones, loudspeakers, basic networking, cameras and displays; signal types and signal flow; and networking for data and AV, RF, digital and analog signals.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction floor plans and comment/make adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret audio, video, control and network design diagrams and comment/make adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to create drawings/illustrations and descriptions of audiovisual systems to show clients/vendors/installers that would convey system goals and functionality.
  • Familiarity with digital imaging and video editing software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed; required to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

    Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
