Do you thrive in the spotlight, love presenting and hosting events, and possess deep knowledge of cutting-edge open source technologies like Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg™, Apache Spark™, and MLflow?

As an Open Lakehouse Developer Advocate, you'll be a vital bridge between our engineering teams and the wider open source developer community.

This role will leverage your strong expertise in the Open Lakehouse ecosystem, including Databricks' contributions like Apache Spark™, Apache Iceberg™, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and MLflow, to educate, inspire, and support a rapidly growing user base.

Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of impactful, scalable knowledge-sharing activities.

You’ll deliver engaging talks at conferences and community events, host insightful panels and meetups, create informative blogs and video content that scales to a broad audience, develop comprehensive courseware, provide expert answers in community forums, and conduct one-on-one sessions with influential data engineers and scientists.

These efforts will help disseminate best practices and foster a thriving, engaged Open Lakehouse community.

You'll also have the opportunity to dive deep into specific open source projects, contributing directly and offering in-depth technical guidance.

Reporting to the lead of OSS Developer Relations, you’ll collaborate with fellow developer advocates and program managers to create a cohesive and impactful developer relations strategy that champions open source.

The ideal candidate for this position will embody the values of our Developer Relations team: a deep passion for open source data engineering, genuine empathy for developers’ needs within the open source community, and a strong commitment to effectively explaining our products and the underlying open source technologies.

  • Provide robust support for users across platforms like Slack, StackOverflow, and online communities to stay attuned to their feedback and requirements, actively participating and contributing to these forums.

  • Continue and extend sample notebooks and code, particularly those related to the Open Lakehouse and Databricks' open source projects, demonstrating deep technical expertise.
  • What we look for:

  • 5+ years of experience as a DevRel and as a software developer, solutions architect, or related profession, with a strong focus on open source contributions and community engagement.

  • Subject matter knowledge of solving data engineering problems at all scales within an open source context.

  • Experience with Python, SQL, and Scala.

Experience with Rust and Golang would be preferred.

  • You have extensive experience working with and significantly contributing to open source communities and projects.

  • You are a recognized leader in the Open Lakehouse communities and are deeply engaged with Databricks' OSS solutions, such as Apache Spark™, Apache Iceberg™, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and MLflow.

  • You are an active participant in the community and regularly present at meetups, events, and write influential technical articles, demonstrating deep technical understanding and community engagement.

  • You are a solid communicator with experience writing about, teaching, and speaking about complex technical topics, with the ability to create scalable content for a broad audience.

  • You are a strong public event speaker, YouTuber, or podcast host on technical topics.

You are capable of delving into an OSS project and explaining its intricacies.
