This role is part of an Amazon Special Projects team that takes the company’s Think Big leadership principle to the limits.

As an Applied Science Manager on our team, you will focus on building state-of-the-art ML models for healthcare.

Our team rewards curiosity while maintaining a laser-focus in bringing products to market.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Build and lead a world-class team of applied scientists and researchers.
- Oversee the design and implement novel AI/ML solutions for complex healthcare challenges.
- Ensure our team stays current with advancements in machine learning and data science.
- Balance theoretical knowledge with practical implementation.
- Work closely with customers and partners to understand their requirements.
- Drive technical vision and strategy for ML applications in healthcare.
- Mentor and develop team members while fostering innovation in a collaborative work environment.
- Navigate ambiguity and create clarity in early-stage product development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

A day in the life
You will solve real-world problems by getting and analyzing large amounts of data, generate insights and opportunities, design simulations and experiments, and develop statistical and ML models.

The team is driven by business needs, which requires collaboration with other Scientists, Engineers, and Product Managers across the Special Projects organization.

You will prepare written and verbal presentations to share insights to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication.

Basic Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related quantitative field.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++.
- Experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
- Expert knowledge of machine learning, deep learning and predictive modeling; solid understanding of large language models.
- 7+ years of industry experience in applied machine learning.
- At least 2 years of people management experience.
- Expertise in developing and deploying production ML systems.
- Track record of delivering complex, ambiguous projects from concept to production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans.
- Effectively translate research findings into practical solutions.
- Experience in deep learning models for healthcare.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
- Experience presenting to senior executives.
- History of successful collaboration with cross functional product, engineering, and business teams.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

The base pay for this position ranges from $196,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon is a total compensation company.

Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
