Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt (6 month Contract to Hire - 110k-130k)
Location: El Cjaon, CA
Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for performing a wide range of analytical and investigative tasks in support of sales, new product development, and improvements to existing products such as winches and rig anchor release (RAR) systems.
This role provides engineering support from the proposal phase through design, manufacturing, factory acceptance, and customer delivery.
The position requires close collaboration with management, drafting, machining, and welding teams to ensure timely and accurate project execution.
The engineer will contribute as both an individual contributor and a team member, preparing accurate models, drawings, manuals, and reports while helping to define new product specifications and realization plans.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support for existing mooring line release systems (RAR).
Prepare technical specifications, proposals, and estimates for new products, including custom-designed winch systems.
Develop preliminary and detailed designs, ensuring compliance with safety, reliability, and functionality requirements.
Perform engineering calculations and analyses as needed.
Specify appropriate materials and components for projects.
Create and review engineering documentation, models, and drawings.
Develop test plans, procedures, and end-user documentation.
Participate in factory acceptance testing, collect and analyze data, and prepare test reports.
Collaborate hands-on with shop staff to ensure manufacturing accuracy and timely completion of tasks.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
Professional license or registration a plus.
10+ years of professional engineering experience in an industrial setting preferred.
Demonstrated history of professional growth with broad technical exposure.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of shipboard systems including winches, LARS, and mooring systems.
In-depth understanding of motors and motion control systems preferred.
Expert-level proficiency with SolidWorks, including advanced analysis features.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Professional Skills
Proven ability to develop new product concepts from design through customer acceptance.
Strong analytical ability, creativity, and practical problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and initiative.
Other Requirements
Occasional travel and offsite assignments (up to two weeks at a time).
Valid passport and drivers license required.
