Job Description

The Mobile Solutions Business Unit is seeking an RF Module Design Engineer to join a team of talented design engineers in our San Jose Design Center.

Our design engineering team is responsible for the simulation and design of cellular front-end modules.

These modules include Power Amplifiers, Low-Noise Amplifiers, band/antenna switches and BAW/SAW filters.

The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of fundamental RF/Microwave deisng principales, prototype debugging experience as well as be a driven and committed team plater with effective communication skills.

Experience with RF power amplifier, multi-chip module/high-speed PCB, RF front-end design, and product development is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design multi-chip module/PCB and RF front-end modules targeting cellular applications
  • Design RF matching networks for Power amplifiers, filters, antenna and band switch modules and low noise amplifiers
  • Design integrated passive devices and RF filters
  • Design high-isolation laminate layouts to meet high density component module and able to meet stringent requirements such as de-sense and harmonics.
  • Apply Microwave Engineering and RFIC design fundamentals focusing on integration of power amplifiers, low noise amplifier, filter, antenna and band switching modules in a laminate design
  • Develop high-accuracy simulation benches using ADS, HFSS, or Cadence programs.
  • Adapt the best multi-chip module design and full module Co-simulation practices
  • Conduct lab tuning, data review and analysis
  • Participate and conduct design review meeting
  • The circuit blocks involved in a typical product development may include
    • Power amplifiers, antenna and band switching modules, integrated passive devices, SAW/BAW duplexers and high-Q RF filters, switches, low noise amplifiers, matching circuits, and high-directivity couplers
  • Software Tools Used are:
    • Ansoft HFSS, Agilent ADS and Momentum, Cadence Allegro and Virtuoso Layout
  • Hardware Tools Used are:
    • Network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, digital receivers, load-pull/tuners, RF probe stations

Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with 5 years of related experience required; MSC and 3 years’ of related experience or Ph.D. preferred
  • Strong RF fundamentals such as impedance matching, active/passive RF device modeling, resonant circuits, and RF/wireless communication systems
  • Experience with RF power amplifier, multi-chip module/high-speed PCB, RF front-end design, and product development
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation tools (such as ADS/GoldenGate/spectreRF) and electromagnetic simulation tools (such as HFSS/EMX/Momentum)
  • Experience with RFIC/analog circuit and Antenna design is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience with lab debugging and RF instruments such as spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers and probe stations
  • Knowledge of communication standards, such as LTE-A, WiFi, and the associated standards
  • Understanding of wireless communication requirements such as sensitivity, intermodulation, de-sense, ACLR, EVM
  • Ability to independently identify solutions to technical challenges, remain open to team members’ suggestions, and relentlessly pursue the highest design quality with a strong sense of urgency
  • Strong desire and commitment to take product from concept to volume production
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $91,200 - $177,200 per year.

Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.

Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.

Employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan, and certain roles are also eligible for additional awards, including recognition and stock.
