**Job Description:**

**70%** : Provide academic support in statistics to support undergraduate and graduate students across KU Edwards and Lawrence campus in course assignments, exam preparation, research development and any topic related to statistics.

Methods include face-to-face meetings with students at Edwards Campus and virtually with students at other KU campuses.

Foster students’ learning by asking questions and teaching important statistical strategies and concepts.
**10%** : Participate in ongoing tutor education.

Tutor education includes attending regular staff meetings for Wingspan tutors, reading relevant research, and participating in ongoing professional development.
**10%** : Participate in ongoing partnerships with a variety of classes/departments across campus.

These partnerships may require delivering presentations, participating in events, workshops, or other forms of academic support as determined by the Wingspan staff.
**5%** : Complete administrative tasks related to tutoring.
**5%** : Additional duties as assigned.

**Required Qualifications:**

Bachelor’s degree in statistics or related subjects
2.

Knowledge of or ability to learn how to use statistical tools, such as SPSS, R, SAS, as evidenced by application materials
3.

Previous experience that required expertise in and completed graduate-level statistics courses, as evidenced by application materials

Graduate degree in Applied Statistics, Data and Analysis, or related subjects

Previous experience that required the ability to adapt to all levels of learners and approach students with different learning strategies to help them develop skills, as evidenced by application materials
3.

Previous experience in education such as prior work as a teacher, tutor, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, or other related experience
4.

Previous experience in helping students reach their academic goals with strong listening skills, sensitivity, generosity, and flexibility, as evidenced by application materials
5.

Previous experience using data to support academic arguments and tell a story, such as in research writing, as evidenced by application materials

**Position Overview:**

Unit Overviews:
_KU’s Wingspan_ : Center for Learning and Writing Support offers a portfolio of collaborative, innovative academic support programs and services to students, faculty, and staff.

The Wingspan provides individual and group support through its Peer Academic Coaching program, Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Learning and Tutoring Services, and Writing Center Services.

The Wingspan is a part of the University Academic Support Centers (UASC), a comprehensive student support program consisting of two unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas.

UASC supports the University’s commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students.

UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development.

University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Affairs.

KU Edwards Campus: The University of Kansas Edwards Campus is located in Overland Park, KS, strategically placed to bring permanent growth and education to the greater Kansas City area by providing courses to working professionals, transfer students, and international students.

While classes can be held at any time during the day, most classes are held in the evenings between 4pm and 9pm.

Position Overview:
The Statistics Tutor will deliver one-on-one tutoring support at KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS, providing academic support in statistics and related course content to undergraduate and graduate KU students.

The position will support both students taking statistics and research methods courses at KU as well as students working on research projects that involve statistical data and analysis.

Tutoring will take place both in person (drop-in and by appointment on Edwards Campus) and virtually via Zoom.

Zoom appointments will be offered to any KU student in need of support.

To meet student needs, tutoring hours will mostly take place in the evenings 2-3 days per week Monday-Friday, though virtual appointments on the weekends may be a future request depending on tutor’s availability.
