Position Information Position Title STEM Explorer Assistant (On Site - University Center, MI) Employee Group Temporary Division/Department Science and Mathematics Status Part-time, Temporary 20 hrs/week
Starting Salary: $15.00 per hour.
Position Summary Information Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Engage with students and community members (elementary-age children to adults) during school visits and public events, guiding them through hands-on STEM activities and educational modules.
Assist with setup and cleanup for outreach events and school visits.
Learn and clearly communicate foundational science and engineering concepts related to STEM Explorer activities and modules.
Restock the STEM Explorer vehicle and rotate onboard learning modules as needed.
Maintain a clean, organized workspace on a daily basis.
Collaborate with the STEM Explorer Coordinator to develop, refine, and troubleshoot STEM modules and materials.
Provide general program support as needed, which may include administrative tasks.
Learn to operate and support project-related technology and equipment, including Microsoft Office, PCs, iPads, gaming systems, 3D printers, and 3D modeling software with guidance from the coordinator.
Required Qualifications High school diploma
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, including with diverse groups of students, educators, and colleagues.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage a variety of tasks efficiently.
Strong problem-solving skills and a creative, adaptable approach to unexpected challenges.
Willingness and capacity to learn and understand STEM concepts relevant to each module.
Effective verbal communication and active listening skills.
Proficient in or willing to learn the Delta College Minimum Technology Skills, including Microsoft Office and basic digital tools.
Physically able to lift and transport materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Flexible availability, with primary hours during weekday K–12 school visits and occasional evening or weekend outreach events.
Reliable personal transportation and the ability to travel independently to regional school sites.
Eagerness to learn new skills and technologies on the job. Additional Experiences Considered Completion of 6 or more college credits in STEM-related courses (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Coursework or hands-on experience in computer programming.
Prior experience working with middle or high school students.
Familiarity with basic hand tools and/or electronic equipment for repairing or building educational modules.
Participation in STEM-related clubs, extracurricular activities, or programs (e.g., high school robotics or coding clubs).
Experience operating or troubleshooting 3D printers or other digital fabrication tools. Application Deadline Position will remain open until filled.
