Storage Engineer
Location: San Diego, CA
Duration: 3+ months contract
NetApp and Storage Specific Skills that would be of immediate benefit:
Familiar with ONTAP administration / configuration (e.g. best practices for configuring the cluster for the needs of multiple (many 10s) of different applications.) Some access the cluster via NFS, others via S3.
Able to ensure the appropriate configuration and policies are set-up for HA / fault-tolerance.
Experience with testing / validation of built-in resiliency mechanisms within ONTAP storage.
Understands how to configure ONTAP to align with security best-practices, including integration with an authentication provider, and syslog integration.
Familiar with data-protection features of ONTAP, and which features are most applicable for backing up ONTAP data to generic S3-compatible storage on-premises.
Can develop the necessary tooling and/or processes to automate FDE / FIPS enabling across all ONTAP HA pairs within the cluster easily.
Can develop the necessary tooling and/or processes to automate ONTAP SW upgrades all ONTAP HA pairs within the cluster easily.
Typical Storage Engineer Job Description:
Core Technical Skills
Storage architecture and validation: Experience with hardware, firmware, and utility evaluation and testing.
Linux OS proficiency: Solid working knowledge required.
Programming languages: Familiarity or skill in BASH, Python, Perl, Java, and C++.
Thermal and power analysis: Ability to conduct and interpret product validation tests.
Failure analysis: Root cause and corrective action planning for hardware issues.
Engineering & Manufacturing Expertise
Process development: Creating and refining manufacturing, integration, and testing procedures.
Vendor collaboration: Troubleshooting and diagnostics with hardware suppliers.
Subcomponent qualification: Supporting product design validation cycles.
Benchmarking and documentation: Evaluating designs and contributing to patents and engineering records.
Collaboration & Leadership
Cross-functional teamwork: Participating in product development and sustaining engineering efforts.
Technical leadership: Managing hardware releases and coordinating with project teams.
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for documentation and team interaction.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's in computer science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
