Job description

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking a Structural Project Engineer for our Birmingham office with 5-12 years of experience.

The position will work on a wide range of projects to include planning, design, permitting, and construction of structures in the ‘water space’ ( drinking water, wastewater, water resources, conveyance, canals and ports).

  • Key Responsibilities may include: 

  • Project engineering/management, mentoring and developing junior staff, performing site inspections and assessments of existing infrastructure.

  • Perform assessment, design, and construction tasks for water and wastewater treatment projects.

  • Produce design calculations, technical reports, permitting, detailed design and engineering plans/specifications for environmental structures such as industrial buildings, pump stations, process basins, storage facilities and treatment facilities.

  • Participate in construction tasks for similar projects including submittal review, responding to RFI’s, site inspections and clarifications during construction.

  • Required Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (with a Structural Concentration preferred) or Structural Engineering 
  • PE license (or ability to obtain within 6 months) 
  • 5-12 years of related experience 
  • Experience in design and construction of structural steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, and aluminum is required as well as knowledge of applicable building codes, design standards including ACI, AISC, ASCE, and structural analysis and design software 
  • Candidates must be effective communicators and be able to successfully work in a multi-discipline team environment
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree Master’s in Civil Engineering (with a Structural Concentration) or Structural Engineering
