Structured Cabling Infrastructure Assessor / Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Onsite | Rockville, MD




We are looking for experienced and detail-driven professionals to serve as Structured Cabling Infrastructure Assessors.

In this role, you will be responsible for thoroughly inspecting telecommunications rooms, structured cabling setups, and associated infrastructure within both leased and owned facilities.

Your assessments will play a critical role in shaping the direction of a major re-cabling initiative and will support the strategic development and deployment of future infrastructure.



The successful candidate will carry out on-site evaluations, document existing conditions with precision, and produce comprehensive deliverables including floor plans, rack elevation schematics, technical summaries, and photo documentation.

This is a field-oriented role requiring proven proficiency in structured cabling systems and best practices.





Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform structured cabling evaluations at approximately 233 designated locations

  • Inspect and document all Telecommunications Rooms (TRs), including Main Distribution Frames (MDFs) and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs)

  • Review and record key infrastructure components, such as:

    • Horizontal and backbone cabling (fiber and copper)

    • Cable support systems (e.g., trays, conduits, J-hooks)

    • Ceiling types (drop tile, hard lid, open/exposed)

    • Firestop presence and condition at cable penetrations

    • Electrical and HVAC availability within TRs

    • Grounding and bonding systems in accordance with TIA-607-D



  • Capture workspace configurations including private offices, cubicles, and open areas

  • Produce detailed CAD diagrams showing:

    • Locations of TRs and equipment rooms

    • Backbone cabling pathways

    • Telecom drop counts per floor, with precise outlet placement

    • As-built layouts for cubicles and offices



  • Create rack elevation drawings and a full written audit for each site

  • Collect and systematically label photo documentation of infrastructure components

  • Coordinate site visits and access arrangements with Task Managers and departmental contacts





Minimum Requirements


  • At least one year of hands-on experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or telecom infrastructure

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD applications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to interpret and contribute to technical diagrams and infrastructure plans

  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills

  • A valid driver s license and dependable transportation for multi-site travel

  • Must pass a background check and adhere to all applicable security policies





Preferred Qualifications


  • BICSI certification (one or more of the following):


    • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)

    • Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)

    • BICSI Technician (TECH)



  • Prior experience in government, public safety, or enterprise-level infrastructure environments

  • Knowledge of current industry standards including TIA/EIA, NEC, and BICSI codes

  • Proven background in conducting structured cabling audits or infrastructure evaluations


OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus
