Overview

Network and Audio Video Support Specialist
Salary
$43,760.00 - $51,053.00 Annually

The Network and Audio Video Support Specialist serves as a mission-critical technical expert responsible for the design, configuration, integration, maintenance, and operational continuity of the college's enterprise network, telecommunications, and advanced audiovisual systems.

This position ensures the continuous availability, security, and performance of technology essential for instruction, campus safety, and administrative operations across multiple campuses and remote learning environments.

This position executes independent, high-impact decisions in system diagnostics, problem resolution, and infrastructure improvements.

This position also serves as the designated backup to the Director of Network and Video Technologies, assuming full operational responsibility during absences to sustain critical infrastructure uptime.


Responsibilities



  • Acts as backup to the Director, Network and Video Technologies when needed to keep critical network infrastructure operating.

  • Support all campuses, remote sites, and partner sites with responsibility for maintaining business continuity across locations.

  • Assists with design, installation, maintenance, and programming of complex audio and video control systems.

  • Maintains privileged access to sensitive institutional systems, including network configurations, computer systems, security camera footage, and user authentication services.

  • Develop and deploy custom programming for AV control systems and their integration with network infrastructure.

  • Provides training and support to faculty, staff and students on classroom and instructional technologies.

  • Assists and supports faculty in the classroom as technology issues arise.

  • Operate and maintain videoconferencing labs and HyFlex classrooms.

  • Installs, maintains, and upgrades assigned servers, computers, network and audio video equipment.

  • Responds to and answers complex questions of staff on networking, audio video systems, control systems, computer systems, software programs, and related equipment.

  • Documents and maintains records of problems, solutions, programs and procedures.


Marginal Functions



  • Ensure that network and AV systems comply with FERPA, PCI, HIPAA, OSHA and ADA accessibility, and other applicable regulations.

  • Participate in technology planning, equipment specification and vendor selection.

  • Assist other technicians and departments when requested.

  • Support installation and maintenance of the surveillance system.

  • Participate in professional development and required employee training.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Working Conditions


Knowledge of:



  • Computer networking fundamentals and equipment including Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Aruba and Dell.

  • Audio video and control systems (e.g., Extron, Crestron, and Biamp)

  • Network security monitoring, implementing access control, and supporting incident response efforts.

  • VoIP and telephony systems, emergency notification systems, and security surveillance systems

  • Video analytics, storage compliance, and evidence export for law enforcement

  • Video system components and integration.

  • Computer hardware and peripheral maintenance.

  • Cable connections, electrical currents and safety protocols.

  • Software applications and relevant programming languages.

  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.

  • Basic math and effective written and verbal communication.

  • Learn and utilize general and specialized software pertaining to job.

  • Operate assigned equipment necessary for position.

  • Troubleshoot problems as they occur.

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations of the college.

  • Operate a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Environmental, Physical, Scheduling and Travel Conditions


Environmental Conditions: The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace and working closely with others.

The employee must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.


Physical Conditions: Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, and descending for extended periods, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, periodically lifting or moving up to 60 pounds, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, repeated bending and extended exposure to computer screens.

Lifting occasionally occurs in difficult work positions, including working on a ladder at heights.

The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.


Scheduling Conditions: This is a full-time, 12-month position, which requires the employee to be on campus or at an approved alternate location for at least thirty-six hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm.

This position generally works daytime hours but has the potential for occasional evening or weekend hours.


Traveling Conditions: Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed.

Out of state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.


Experience and Training
Experience: Two years of prior experience in network and/or computer systems support, electronics or related area required.

Two years of hands-on experience working with Cisco, Aruba, Extron, Crestron, Biamp or related equipment.
Training: Associate degree from an accredited college with major course work in computer programming, information systems, networking, cyber security, or electronics/electrical engineering.

Extron and Biamp certifications preferred.
