Position Details

Position Information Position Title Student Assistant for Media Services Academic Year 2025-2026 UIW Mission University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good.

Position Summary The Media Services student assistant will work directly with the immediate Supervisor and Audio-Visual Manager.

The Media Servises student worker will also provide technical assistance and support during events as requested or as needed.

This position reports to Lead Media Services Technician.



This is a student position open to current UIW students who may be hired through the Federal Work-Study Program or student employment. Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret room demographics.

  • Set up/remove A/V equipment in accordance with the schedule of events via the Media Center calendar and 25Live scheduling.

  • Ensure setup and storage of A/V equipment is completed for all events.

  • Make sure A/V closets are kept in order.

  • Respond to requests from the Audio-Visual Manager

  • Inspect rooms for damage, cleanliness, and document issues to be addressed.

  • Reading and interpreting room dimensions with respect to A/V setups.

  • Setup A/V equipment for meetings and various functions throughout campus.

  • Troubleshooting A/V equipment when there are technical questions or problems related to A/V equipment and identifying appropriate solutions.

  • Serve as on-sight A/V support for events that take place on campus sites.

  • Provide basic instruction on the operation of A/V equipment to customers as necessary.

  • Clean and maintain equipment, report damages to the Supervisor and Audio-Visual Manager.

  • Assist in weekly inventory of A/V equipment.

  • Assist with room setups and tear-downs, as necessary.

  • Attend A/V staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Be attentive to the safety and security of the A/V environment.

  • Be aware of emergency procedures and troubleshoot concerns throughout the facility.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Must have skilled knowledge of audio-visual equipment.

  • Must have skilled knowledge of computers, presentation software, and A/V equipment.

  • Ability to work independently, identify resources, and make independent decisions.

  • Strong oral communication skills.

  • Must be familiar with campus buildings, their equipment, policies, programs, and services.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability and interest in learning technology-related skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Flexible hours for availability (including evenings and weekends)

  • Positive customer-oriented attitude and professional image.

  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Required Education
  • Current UIW student approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study program

  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  • Required Work Experience
  • Must have experience with shooting and editing video.

  • Experience with doing non-linear editing (NLE) software such as Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premiere.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience with shooting and editing video.

  • Familiarity with software such as Adobe Photoshop and After Effects is a plus, as well as Office 365 products.

  • Prefer students who are seeking a degree in Communication Arts or a related program.

  • Knowledge of web content management systems.

    Work with TriCaster.
  • Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None.

    Work Hours Daytime, evening and weekend work as required for 12 – 20 hours per week.

    Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to sit or stand in place for an extended period of time.
