The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for STUDENT INTERN - Mosquito Control Section (HBMD).

The Broward County Mosquito Control Section is seeking candidates for the position of Student Intern.

This position will assist in the performance of field work for the collection of mosquito specimens and laboratory work related to the identification of mosquitoes and mosquito larvae.Job duties include:
• Assists in the assembly, maintenance, and placement of mosquito traps throughout locations in Broward County.
• Collecting and preserving trapped mosquito specimens in the field
• Preparing mosquito specimens for identification
• Maintaining mosquito surveillance data
• Assisting in the maintenance of the inventory of mosquito control chemicals and other supplies

The ideal candidate will have:
• A background in entomology, biology, or environmental science
• Good interpersonal skills and communication ability
• A willingness to work outdoors
• A valid Florida driver’s license

Broward County Mosquito Control has a dedicated team that provides services for the control of vector and nuisance mosquitoes to protect the residents of Broward County.

Incumbent will have the opportunity to learn, through hands-on experience, about mosquito control practices by working closely with professionals in the industry.
General Description
Performs support duties in an agency in order to gain knowledge, skills and professional experience.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures.

Work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to area of assignment.
Special Certifications and Licenses Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License 
Preferences * Associate's Degree or higher in Biology, Entomology or related field.
* Training certification in mosquito biology and control techniques.* Florida CDL Class A or Class B License.
* Public Health Applicators License issued by State of Florida.
* One (1) year of experience with Surveillance and Testing activities (i.e., setting up traps, dip sampling, larval counts, data collection and analysis).
* One (1) year of experience with using larvicide equipment and turbine sprayer (i.e., calibration of equipment, measuring/mixing, loading and testing of biological larvicide materials such as Vectobac or similar products).
* One (1) year professional experience using GPS or GIS applications.
* One (1) year Experience in inventory control (handling chemicals/any additional supplies).

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
