    Scope of Position

    The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to callers.

    The Switchboard Lead functions as a member of the team that reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect.

    This position provides supervisory and support functions for the Medical Center Switchboard.

    Position Summary

    The Switchboard Lead assumes responsibility for the supervision of the Medical Center Switchboard operations.

    The role of the Switchboard Lead demonstrates the highest degree of customer service, demonstrating accountability and responsibility for the communication of accurate information to callers, physicians and medical center staff.

    Additionally, this position assists with call processing, processing a working knowledge of telecommunication functions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

  • Ability to function at a computer workstation.

  • Ability to have finger dexterity, (writing, operating a keyboard, and a push-button phone)

  • Ability to speak English and produce a clear, pleasant telephone voice

  • Ability to understand voice communication while talking on the phone and to hear technical sounds

  • Able to visualize a computer monitor and adjust vision when doing close work

  • Able to read written communication

  • Able to perform necessary duties and maintain safety within the unit

  • Minimum Education Required

  • Must be able to work the hours of 7 am to 3:30 pm and every other Sat and Sun (9:00a-5:30p).

    On-Site Required.

  • High School diploma or GED.

    4 years of relevant experience required.

    6 or more years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree with supervisory/management experience, experience in healthcare setting with multi-line preferred.

  • One year office and/or operations experience (1000 hours training &/or course work) including general office support, monitoring and processing budget and accounting information, providing customer service; 6 mos.

    experience (600 hours training &/or course work) in staff supervision, training and development; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
