Description
WorkSpaces is leading the cloud desktop revolution and we are looking for engineers who know how to design and maintain highly scalable software services.

We care deeply about the user experience our customers have when they interact with their WorkSpace.

This includes how long it takes to launch, how long it takes to log in, and how the in-session interaction feels.

We must provide a secure and highly available WorkSpaces to meet expectations.

We are looking for a skilled Systems Development Engineer to join our team in Virginia.

In this role, you will design, implement, and manage scalable cloud solutions for ADC customers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the next generation of cloud technologies.

This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.

The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Linux, especially in large-scale, distributed environments, and a strong understanding of networking technology and server inter-relationships.

They will excel in deep-dive troubleshooting and conduct technical post-mortems to identify the root causes of complex issues.

Passionate about coding, the candidate will be adept at building tools in Python/Java and solving system problems in Python/Java, with a solid grasp of software development methodologies.

They will be responsible for creating and deploying scalable solutions across thousands of devices, continuously improving processes to handle massive-scale operations.

The candidate will proactively address system variances affecting major services worldwide, investigating service inter-dependencies and region-specific configurations.

They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud infrastructure maintenance and engage in continuous learning from Amazon's distinguished engineers to stay updated on industry best practices.

A day in the life
On a typical day as a Senior System Development Engineer (SysDev), you will collaborate with internal service teams to enhance system health, maintainability, and operational efficiency.

Your work will involve improving tooling and product builds, ensuring that our systems run smoothly and effectively.

Additionally, you will tackle complex technical challenges faced by our customers, providing global solutions to these advanced problems.

As part of the Amazon Dedicated Cloud community, you may also be required to offer on-call support across various End User Compute technology stacks, ensuring that our services remain reliable and robust.

The primary focus of the team is on the growth and delivery of the WorkSpaces and AppStream services.

Working in a high-trust environment, you will partner closely with internal service teams to quickly resolve issues through code, driving positive customer experiences.

The team was formed in response to the significant growth of related services in recent years, highlighting the need for agility and a proactive approach to solving emergent challenges.

In this role, you will be solving problems that directly impact the performance and reliability of our cloud services.

You will work with a variety of internal stakeholders, including other engineers, product managers, and support teams, to ensure that our solutions meet the needs of our customers.

The end goal is to maintain the high standards of service that AWS is known for, while continuously improving and innovating to stay ahead of industry demands.

About the team
The Aperture / WorkSpaces Team
We provide the highest caliber Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for WorkSpaces services within ADC Regions.

We provide 'hands on keyboard' support to commercial service teams by deploying changes into these isolated regions, monitoring the results, and reporting any issues that are observed.

Amazon WorkSpaces is a fully managed, secure Desktop-as-a-Service (DAAS) solution that provides virtual-desktops running on the Windows or Linux Operating Systems.

Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Bachelor's degree, or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional)
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience building services using AWS products
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology
- Experience working with Kubernetes or other container orchestration technology

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
