S ummary



Technical Specialist 1 assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities for MTA C&D.

This role performs routine technical design tasks with standard techniques and assists more senior technical specialists in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.





Responsibilities

Performs technical tasks by developing knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards , and processes.





Provides technical support on multiple design projects, including analyzing and documenting critical design elements.





Provides technical field support for system/equipment installation and related project construction.





Coordinates and communicates with team members to determine requirements and incorporate feedback.





Coordinates with Agency Owners, designers, contractors, outside consultants, and other government agencies.





Education and Experience



Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate technical field, Engineering Technology/Engineering Science , or an equivalent subject.





Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.







E xperience in 5G design, preferably in transportation or critical infrastructure sectors.





Knowledge of 3GPP specifications for cellular telecommunications technologies, including radio access, core network , and service capabilities,



5G Certifications: Desirable



Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations for transportation systems, including safety and security protocols



Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and methodologies in a complex transportation network design.





Technical Skills



5G Technologies: Experience with 5G networks, including network slicing, wayside radio parameterization, synchronization , and 5G core integration, and its application in transportation systems.





Cybersecurity: Strong awareness of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, IEC), and practices relevant to transportation and communication systems.





Database Management: Familiarity with database management systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL) for data storage and retrieval.





Networking Protocols: Familiarity with networking principles, operational traffic based on TCP/IP, UDP, and advanced routing protocols (OSPF, SR-MPLS, ISIS, BGP).





Competencies:



Must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.





Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.





W orking knowledge of relevant industry standards and installation practices is a plus.





Analytical ability, pro-active attitude, willingness to learn , and an ability to think outside the box when required.





A g eneral understanding of current design , engineering software, and Microsoft Office is required.





Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking for network design and troubleshooting.





Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.





Team Leadership: Ability to mentor junior engineers, lead integration issue s, and lead technical discussions.
