This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week.

There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

+ Copy edit articles not just for spelling and grammar, but also for clarity, factualness and New York Times style and standards

+ Work on multiple articles through several rounds of heavy editing

+ Edit articles with digital and print trajectories, and understand their respective qualities and procedures, often simultaneously in Oak and InCopy K4

+ Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

+ You will report to the Copy Chief of The New York Times Sunday Magazine

Basic Qualifications:

+ Five or more years of editorial experience, with a mix of digital and print.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Experience at a weekly magazine.

Experience with Oak and InCopy K4.

Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail.

+ Experience meeting deadlines, both self-imposed and scheduled.

+ Experience prioritizing and handling multiple projects at various stages of production.

+ A congenial, collaborative approach in making and taking suggestions.

+ The confidence to problem-solve independently and to ask for guidance when needed.

+ Open to working a flexible schedule when things need a little more time, but also need to be finished that day.

+ A firm understanding of today's digital and print environment.

This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.
