Temporary Nursing Simulation Coordinator - School of Science, Technology, and Health
The Department of Nursing is now accepting applications for a temporary staff position in the in Nursing program.
Preferred candidates will be a professional registered nurse with acute care experience within the last three to five years in Medical/surgical nursing or critical care nursing.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Supports and implements the mission, goals, and policies of Biola University and the Department of Nursing.
Meets with faculty and student peer leaders before and after simulation and skills lab experiences to prepare and debrief as needed
Promotes student learning through maintenance of skills lab equipment, space, and technology.
Conducts ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment
Monitors all biomedical products and manikins and offers recommendations to the director regarding updates, repairs, and replacements as needed.
Maintains oversight of the general appearance of the simulation/skills spaces, including stocking of supplies and equipment cleaning
Communicates with the University Information Technology team for IT support in skills lab spaces
Creates and maintains the schedule for all activities within Lim and Soubirou Labs
Coordinates scheduling and student peer leader staffing of skills lab teaching and simulation activities
Staffs all Open Skills lab days throughout the semester, providing at least 10 hours per week availability.
Coordinates with other departments ( Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy) for shared use of space and equipment as needed
Collaborates with faculty in the development and implementation of the senior simulation event at the end of each semester including helping staff this event.
Maintains regular communication with faculty, clinical supervisors, and students in support of a positive and productive student experience
Provides updates at full faculty and semester-specific faculty meetings
Communicates with relevant faculty regarding specific student learning needs
Stewards the skills and simulation lab supply budget
Purchases necessary supplies, equipment, and service warranties.
Tracks expenditures in appropriate applications and manages spending within budget.
Communicates with medical and supply vendor representatives to negotiate favorable pricing and support
Coordinates with the Nursing Director, Dean’s Office, prior to and throughout the procurement process
Maintains inventory and conducts routine inventory updates
Maintains department equipment value and lifecycle spreadsheet annually and as needed
Organizes and conducts N95 mask fit testing for the nursing program
Maintains student records of N95 mask testing schedule and mask sizes
Communicates renewal notices to students
Promote student learning through set-up/break down of skills stations and maintaining the overall readiness of skills lab.
Maintain an atmosphere in the lab, which promotes critical thinking/clinical reasoning, and encourages students to be responsible for their own learning, as well as, upholding their own personal and professional development.
Provides supervision and support for Semester 4 and 5 student participation
Provides supervision for student workers in the lab space.
Demonstrate excellent communication, accountability, and initiative, along with a strong Christian commitment and interest in the integration of faith with learning.
Qualifications:
Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
A MSN degree is preferred.
Active California RN licensure and CPR healthcare provider card through American Heart Association renewed biennially.
Maintains currency in nursing knowledge and skills.
Possess a commitment to high-quality instruction in an in-person student-centered environment.
