The Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in molecular and/or developmental genetics, starting July 1, 2026.

We seek candidates with expertise in classic and/or emerging invertebrate models or innovative cellular systems (e.g., organoids, 3D cultures).

Research areas may include aging, regeneration, gene regulation, chromatin dynamics, development, metabolism, reproduction, disease pathogenesis, and stem cell biology.

The successful candidate will establish a dynamic, internationally recognized, and externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and mentor students within the interdisciplinary Biomedical Science (BIM) program.

Candidates must be able to teach in both English and French at the time of hiring.

The successful candidate will join an innovative and collaborative department of 40 researchers working in a wide range of fields, including cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, neurobiology and physiology.

The Department maintains close collaborations with researchers at the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, the Ottawa Heart Institute, and Carleton University.

The Faculty of Science provides access to core facilities for molecular biology, genomics, microscopy and aquatic animal care, to all of its members.

Title of the position: Assistant Professor.

The higher ranks will be considered according to budgetary approval.

Terms: New tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scales for Assistant Professors start at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Skill requirements:

  • Education: Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Postdoctoral experience is expected.
  • A demonstrated track record of research excellence must be clearly presented, along with commitment and strategies for teaching and graduate training.
