**Job Summary**

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics (GEGM).

This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Candidates with an interest in addressing current research challenges in geotechnical engineering and geomechanics through comprehensive approaches-such as experimental (laboratory and field), theoretical, computational, and/or data-driven methods-are invited to apply.

All research areas and methodologies within geotechnical engineering and geomechanics are considered.

These may include but are not limited to resilient geotechnical infrastructure, geological engineering and rock mechanics, and geotechnics and geomechanics for sustainable energy production.

The **Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering** 's mission is the education of undergraduate and graduate students to become leaders in the professional practice of engineering, contributing to technological advances that benefit humankind while enhancing Earth's physical and biological resources.

The education and research efforts of the department address planning, design, construction, and management of the built environment as well as in the interaction between the built and natural environment.

The Department has 41 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 teaching faculty, and 5 research professors across six engineering specialty areas and four interdisciplinary areas.

The Department is home to 400 undergraduate and 155 graduate students.

**What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be**

+ Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; develop an externally funded research program in their technical area; contribute professional leadership and service to their unit, the college, and their professional community; and cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.
+ The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service.
+ We seek faculty whose research, teaching, and service will expand the capability, reliability, and applicability of geotechnical engineering and geomechanics to address state, national, and global challenges in a just, equitable, and sustainable way.

+ The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2026, however a later start date may be negotiated.
+ The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering's strategic vision focuses on engaging in collaborative and innovative research to create sustainable climate-resilient infrastructure that benefits humankind while enhancing Earth's physical and biological resources.

We seek to be an incubator of entrepreneurship and community engagement in our research, with the goal of improving technologies, processes, policies, and practices that support thriving communities and environments.

New faculty will join a department with a wide range of expertise addressing sustainable climate-resilient infrastructure, including expertise in building systems, environmental engineering, construction engineering and management, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and hydrology and water resources, generating collaborative efforts to address pressing challenges.
+ The Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics faculty at CU Boulder regularly collaborate with researchers across the department, college, and campus.

There are multiple Centers and Institutes with unique facilities, resources, and expertise relevant to Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics research and education.

**What We Can Offer**

+ The anticipated salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $110,000 - $125,000 academic year salary.
+ Qualified candidates will be considered for the Associate Professor or Professor rank:

+ The salary range for this position at the Associate Professor rank is $125,000 - $150,000 academic year salary.
+ The salary range for this position at the Professor rank is $145,000- $200,000 academic year salary.

+ A relocation stipend may be available within CEAS guidelines.
