Definition and Purpose
The Training and Development Student Assistant supports ASI’s employee learning and development initiatives by assisting with training logistics, program coordination, and resource development.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Coordinator – Human Resources (Training and Development), this position offers hands-on experience in training and development, communication, and project coordination, while contributing to the professional growth of ASI staff.
Requirements
Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units.
Graduate students must carry 4 units.
- Working knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally.
- Ability to use technology tools, (i.e. Microsoft Office) to complete tasks efficiently.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new concepts in training theory, instructional design, and professional development.
- Ability to solve problems creatively and make routine decisions within established guidelines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with a team.
- Ability to provide positive and professional customer service to staff and peers.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to foster teamwork and maintain a cooperative, productive work atmosphere
Supervisory Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training and Coordination
- Assist with scheduling, preparing, and supporting training and student learning programs.
- Support use of training technologies, including the Learning Management System (LMS) and e-learning tools.
- Access and utilize learning management and HRIS systems to generate and organize employee information for training and development purposes, while maintaining confidentiality and data security protocols.
- Track attendance and maintain organized training records.
Project Support
- Assist with planning and logistics for training events and special projects.
- Help create and edit training resources such as handouts, slides, and digital content.
Communication and Assessment
- Provide professional and positive customer service to staff and participants.
- Represent ASI with professionalism in meetings and training sessions.
- Support data entry, feedback collection, and analysis of training outcomes.
- Suggest improvements to enhance training programs.
Other Responsibilities
- Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
- Maintain regular work hours and follow absence procedures.
- Adhere to and enforce all ASI policies and procedures.
- Attend mandatory meetings, workshops, and training.
- Provide general office support and other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
Period of Employment
Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
Background Check
This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7-year County Criminal Search in each county and/or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree).
Credit Reports, Motor Vehicle Record Check and Professional License Verification may also be required based upon the essential functions of the position.

Compensation and Hours
- Hourly Pay Rate: $16.50 per hour
- Hourly Pay Range: $16.50 per hour - $16.50 per hour
Position requires a minimum of three consecutive quarters of availability
