Position Information Position Transition Navigator Department Adult Education Block Grant Starting Salary $, to $, annually, dependent on education and experience Initial Screening Date //5 Preferred Start Date //5 Details Lake Tahoe Community College District announces a professional opportunity to work with the ADVANCE network team.

The district is seeking a Transition Navigator who will serve as a critical connection to and navigator of support services and to assist learners in reaching their career and academic goals.

This position will build and maintain collaborative relationships with community-based and other public agencies in order to connect learners to appropriate services, facilitate “warm hand-offs” with local consortium members to facilitate the learners’ transition to career and/or college, assist learners with setting career and academic goals and develop educational and career plans.

The Navigator participates in consortium and work group meetings and provides input, information, and data for consortium use and analysis.

This position will interact with a wide variety of learners, especially learners whose first language is not English and those who may be eligible for Federal funding support programs.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for August , 5.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $, to $, annually, dependent on education and experience.

There is potential to reach $, annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate.

In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability.

Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee.

LTCC also matches .% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This position is hours per week and months per year, including summer and winter hours.

Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, shifts will be within center hours of 8 am to 5 pm, hours will shift according to the needs of the program.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt).

This position may qualify for LTCC’s telecommute program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to % of the work week after completion of a three-month qualifying period.

LTCC provides a generous leave package including paid holidays per year plus days vacation (with the potential to reach days through years of service) and days sick leave per year.

Description Definition:
Under the direction of the Director of Adult Education, the Transition Navigator will serve as a critical connection to and navigator of support services and to assist students in reaching their career and academic goals through programs and agencies that include: English as a Second Language (ESL), High School Diploma, High School equivalency, Adult Basic Education, Workforce Development and Career and Technical Education programs.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Transition Navigator will ensure students are connected to the continuum of services to span adult education instruction to high school diploma/equivalency to post-secondary education and the workforce.

Representative Duties:
Build collaborative relationships with community-based and other public agencies in order to provide services, referring students to the appropriate support within and external to Lake Tahoe Community College.

Collaborate with adult schools, the regional workforce development systems, local businesses, libraries, and other community organizations to facilitate the students’ transitions to college and/or work.

Provide outreach to partners and potential partners to ensure broad representation and inclusion in the continuum of services and providers.

Understand other organizations and agencies processes, to include; intake, orientation, assessment and follow-up.

Facilitate student bridge/transition sessions to include “warm hand-offs” with local adult education consortium members, workforce development offices and other entities; assist with college student applications, provide workshops to assist with financial aid options, and connect students to college- level support services.

Organize students’ inventory and orientation sessions as needed.



Assist students to set career and academic goals and develop an educational and career plan identifying assets, barriers, and support services needed to address challenges.



Work closely with the Work Experience Coordinator to ensure students have access to appropriate and timely internship and employment opportunities.

Serve on the Student Assessment/Transition work group.

Keep all necessary records and submit required paperwork in a timely manner.

Attend required meetings and professional development sessions as needed.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards Education and Experience Education and Experience
Bachelor degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling or a field of study related to area of assignment and 1 year of transition advising experience, preferably in a bilingual environment.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • Community resources, programs and needs associated with adult learners

  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

  • The needs and challenges facing economically and socially disadvantaged students

  • Bridge/transition classes or advising students about transitions

  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office applications

  • Basic accounting and fiscal reporting techniques

  • The process necessary to remain in and/or complete secondary school as well as to undertake a program of higher education

  • Ability to:
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and learners.

  • Understand the California community college/academic programs and system.

  • Understand and interface with a broad range of community partners, agencies and organizations.

  • Gain an understanding of other organizations/agencies and their processes

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners in providing access to a full range of services and support.

  • Work independently

  • Solve problems and make appropriate decisions

  • Plan and prioritize work

  • Additional Requirement (Licensure/Certification):
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
