Funding: General

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • *Provide individual and group advising to undergraduate students on program requirements, course selection, academic policies, and procedures.
  • *Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and orientation programs for new and continuing undergraduate students.
  • *Maintain accurate student records and track academic progress; monitor and evaluate student performance, and provide intervention and support as needed.
  • *Identify and address student needs and concerns, and advocate for student success.
  • Collaborate with Undergraduate Career Services to coordinate study plans with career expectations and facilitate access to scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of undergraduate program policies and procedures.
  • *Coordinate undergraduate student orientation and other program events.
  • *Manage program budgets and resources.
  • Collect and analyze data on student outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • *Serve as a liaison between undergraduate students, faculty, and administration.
  • *Act as an advisor for business student organizations.
  • Coordinates, directs, reviews, and/or monitors the work of others in the accomplishment of a specific task.

  • Monitors, coordinates, or directs the work of lower level personnel, clerical assistants and/or student assistants.
  • *Denotes Essential Functions

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Selected candidate must be willing to reside in Hawaii and work on-premise at the Shidler College of Business.

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Counseling, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for academic advising; or equivalent education/training or experience.

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the field of student advising as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with student advising.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Desirable Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.

  • Experience working in Higher Education administration.

  • Experience working with undergraduate students in a business school environment.

  • Familiarity with student database/CRM systems.

  • Knowledge of curricula, academic requirements, and academic policies.
