We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Unified Communications & Data Center Engineer to join our dynamic Sync team.

This role is perfect for a tech professional who thrives on managing diverse systems and ensuring operational excellence.

You'll be the go-to expert for our PBX and unified communications (UC) systems, while also administering the physical infrastructure of our Lab data center in Lincolnshire, IL.

A key component of this position involves a hands-on role in testing new applications and system updates before they are deployed, ensuring a seamless user experience.


This role is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 days a week in our Lincolnshire, IL office.



Responsibilities:
PBX & Unified Communications (UC) Management 📞
+ Administer and maintain our Lab PBX systems (e.g., Avaya, Cisco, Mitel) and associated UC platforms.
+ Administer user accounts, extensions, voicemail, call routing, auto-attendants, and hunt groups.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve all telephony-related issues, including VoIP quality problems, hardware malfunctions, and software glitches.
+ Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups to ensure system integrity and security.
+ Collaborate with vendors for support and procurement of telecommunications hardware and services.



Data Center Operations & Engineering 🖥️
+ Administer day-to-day operations of the lab data center, including server, network, and storage hardware.
+ Perform physical installation, racking, stacking, and cabling of new equipment.
+ Monitor data center environmental conditions (power, cooling, humidity) and respond to alerts.
+ Maintain meticulous documentation of the data center layout, cabling infrastructure, and asset inventory.
+ Implement and enforce data center security protocols and access controls to ensure the physical safety of all assets.



Application & Systems Testing 🧪
+ Develop and execute detailed test plans and test cases for new in-house and third-party applications.
+ Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies using a bug-tracking system (e.g., Jira).
+ Perform functional, regression, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure software meets business requirements.
+ Collaborate closely with the development and infrastructure teams to diagnose issues and validate fixes.
+ Provide clear and concise feedback to stakeholders on testing status and application quality.




Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical engineering or in a related field is
required

+ Minimum 2+ years of experience working with PBX infrastructure and commensurate knowledge of technology, products, and marketplace required

+ Experience with Linux OS and Python language required

Preferred Qualifications

+ Knowledge of basic electrical engineering concepts like schematics, wiring, hand tools, etc.



+ Knowledge of manufacturing and/or logistics processes and environments a plus

+ Certifications in either Avaya and/or Cisco a plus

Salary: USD 84400.00 - USD 126600.00 Yearly

Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Additionally, all Zebra roles are eligible for cash incentive programs.

For example, sales roles have additional opportunity to earn substantial variable compensation tied to quota achievement.

In most other roles, the Zebra annual cash incentive program links Company and individual performance together.
