UNIV Post Doctoral Scholar Department of Biochemistry

Job description

Job Description

Job Description:

Dr. Delaney, PhD, has an opening in his laboratory for a self-motivated and independent Postdoctoral Scholar.

Delaney Lab projects are centered on investigating how chromosomal copy number changes alter cell biology, particularly in the context of cancer using mice and cancer cell lines as model systems.

This position requires a post-doctoral fellow to investigate metallothioneins: zinc binding proteins of relatively unknown contribution to cancer initiation and drug response.

The scientific culture in the lab is to initially design projects from unbiased genome-wide assays (bioinformatic or –seq technologies) from the highest quality genetic models and work out full mechanistic stories from the outcome.

The ideal candidate has previous experience in a cancer biology laboratory; however, this is not required if the candidate has demonstrated productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.

Opportunities to learn and use R for bioinformatic data science are also available and encouraged.

Dr. Delaney leads the Biological Big Data for Basic Scientists course at MUSC.

The ideal candidate is well-organized and able to create documentation in Word, Excel, and Google Docs.

The Postdoctoral Scholar must be able to work well in a team setting, including the mentoring of undergraduates and colleagues.

Previous experience with mice, microscopy, metabolic assays, cell culture, and bacterial plasmid preps is desired but not required.

Previous experience with Cas9-directed mutagenesis beyond simple knockouts is desired but not required.

The candidate must be willing to work with mice and lentivirus in an oncology context.

The candidate is expected to work hard while in the laboratory, however Dr. Delaney’s lab culture fosters work-life balance.
