Position Overview:

Serve as the forefront librarian for undergraduate research on campus.

Analyze patrons' requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information.

Search standard reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to answer patrons' reference questions.

Teach library patrons basic computer skills, such as searching computerized databases.

Plan and teach classes on topics such as information literacy, bibliographic instruction, and technology use.

Provide reference and instruction services in physical and virtual mediums.

Review and evaluate materials, using book reviews, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings, to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources.

Locate unusual or unique information in response to specific requests.

Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies.

Design and create physical and virtual research tools to promote information literacy.

Reports to the Director of Research and User Engagement.

Job Duties:

• Identifies and establishes working partnerships with campus programs that promote undergraduate research (e.g., the Office of High-Impact Practices and the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Team [URCAT])
• Promotes the role of the library as an academic partner in undergraduate student success
• Promotes information research for lifelong learning
• Works closely with the First Year Experience Librarian to streamline transitions for first year and transfer students into undergraduate research
• Works with faculty to create impactful undergraduate research resources
• Develops academic engagement programs aimed at assisting undergraduate students in learning the conventions, tools, and practices of research and scholarship
• Develops appropriate, interesting, and relevant instruction for academic research
• Works with colleagues to design and implement ongoing assessments and feedback mechanisms to measure the impact and effectiveness of library services and spaces
• Represents the library on the campus URCAT committee
• Shares responsibility for providing research services to all students and faculty by: individual research consultation appointment; referral from the Information Desk; teaching library instruction sessions; offering library instruction STLR opportunities for students; offering on-site research assistance; offering research support and information services, virtually and in person; and providing instruction to online classes through the embedded librarian program coordinated by the Online Research & Learning Librarian
• Serves on the library's Collection Development Committee as a subject area liaison
• Works with faculty to develop and maintain the library's collection
• Creates and maintains subject guides as needed to support student research and learning outcomes
• Assists with developing the library's reference collection
• Coordinates with the Information Desk Supervisor to promote provision of high-quality library service
• Participates in the training & supervision of Information Desk student workers
• Serves on local, state, and/or national library and University committees
• Participates in professional associations and other appropriate venues for continuing education and professional developmen

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Requires a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program plus 3years of work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred:

Teaching or library instruction experience in an academic library.

Knowledge of teaching and research methodologies, such as the ACRL Framework, and their application to information literacy.

Higher Education experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to use current, new and emerging technologies to develop web-based and electronic services to enhance information literacy and to serve as a resource for other librarians.

Ability to learn and apply new teaching technologies quickly.

Demonstrated evidence of initiative and resourcefulness, have a strong customer service orientation, a proven ability to work collaboratively and independently, and a commitment to understanding and serving the needs of a diverse environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
