Department Summary
The Department of Educational Development is the team that designs & develops innovative learning experiences as part of the Division of Academic Innovation at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
This department works closely with faculty and staff to ensure that learning at HSC – whether for academic credit courses, continuing education experiences, micro credentials, or other learning opportunities – is designed using evidence-based principles that will lead to superior learning outcomes for all learners.
At HSC, the Department of Educational Development is the campus leader for online learning, designing credit and non-credit courses, faculty/staff development in education, and educational technology administration and support.
Position Overview
The Instructional Designer is responsible for translating needs and performance requirements into behaviorally based learning products, with a view to designing and developing the processes, content, and materials that will enable learners, instructors and coaches to achieve those outcomes for online, face-to-face and blended courses and other learning experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Educational Design, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Collaboration mindset.
Analytical skills.
Project management skills.
Experience and skilled in educational assessment.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in instructional design, learning technologies, curriculum instruction, education, or related field and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with Canvas learning management system as an administrator or faculty.
Experience designing courses to meet quality standards, such as the Quality Matters rubric for higher education or OLC Scorecard.
Teaching in higher education and public speaking experience preferred.
Health sciences/medical education experience preferred.
Ability to apply principles of accessible design and universal design for learning.

Job Duties:
Manages course revisions in collaboration with development team, including program chairs, subject matter experts, librarians, media designer, etc.
Create and revise curriculum in accordance with sound instructional design principles.
Aids faculty in troubleshooting curricular challenges.
Facilitates design meetings with faculty and professional practitioners.
Supports faculty in collaborative program review, assessment, and improvement processes.
Determine appropriate instructional strategies and delivery technologies to meet objectives.
Assess business constraints, audience characteristics, technical environment, budget, and other factors to determine the right media and technologies to deliver the learning.
Define behaviorally based learning outcomes and create course assessments.
Act as lead designer and project manager responsible for executing the end to end analysis, design, and development process for individual projects.
Design and revise course materials to meet common compliance standards regarding accessibility and copyright.
