Job description

Accessibility Coordinator

UVA and Darden are required to meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards by April 2026.

For our video content, that means captions, transcripts, audio descriptions, and accessible video players all need to be in place, tested, and compliant with ADA Section 508 requirements.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, tech-comfortable student who can help the department organize, track, and move these accessibility updates forward.

The work will be part project manager, part quality checker, and part accessibility advocate.

This Position Is In Person At The Darden School Of Business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit & Inventory: Contribute to a detailed spreadsheet of all videos on our webpage and within curriculum materials, noting their accessibility status (captions, transcripts, audio descriptions, player compliance).

  • Caption & Transcript Coordination: With our guidance, work to ensure accurate, properly synchronized captions.

  • Audio Description Planning: Help identify videos that require audio descriptions, draft scripts, and coordinate with production staff to integrate them.

  • Quality Assurance: Test videos to verify accessibility compliance.

  • Documentation: Keep clear records of progress, deadlines, and standards met, ensuring all updates are documented.

  • Collaboration: Communicate with various teams to ensure accessible video integration.

  • Standards Monitoring: Learn video accessibility guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Current UVA Undergraduate Student.

  • Experience: None
  • Licensure: None
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Comfort with spreadsheets, cloud storage tools, and basic video platforms (e.g., YouTube, Kaltura).

  • Ability to learn and apply accessibility guidelines quickly.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Physical Demands: This position may require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, climb stairs, use fine finger manipulation, etc., while conducting, observing, analyzing and/or recording research data.

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in or familiarity with WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 guidelines, ADA Section 508, or general web accessibility practices.

  • Some experience with captioning tools, video editing software, or transcription platforms.

  • Interest in media accessibility, inclusive design, or assistive technology.

Position Compensation: $15.00 Hourly
