Job description

Overview As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world.

UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills, and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty.
The School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Videographer/Photographer to join their team.

The Office of Advancement and External Affairs at the School of Dentistry comprises Alumni Relations, Advancement, Communications, and Continuing Dental Education.

This small, highly cohesive office places a premium on collegiality, with members who are self-starters who thrive in an environment that lets them exercise their abilities without micro-managing.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are bedrock values, as they are for the School of Dentistry and the University of Washington.
The UWSoD is looking for a Media Technician Senior to work on a one-time project to create an engaging video, showcasing our newly renovated dental simulation lab, introducing the space and its many features to prospective students, alumni, current students and donors on social media and our website.

This may look like a highlight video and/or “tour” that showcases the lab and potentially includes student or faculty interviews.

Timeframe: Project must be completed by December 8, 2025.

Working with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communication, the successful candidate will flesh out the plan for the video, film and edit into a final product for use on our school’s website and social media platforms.
The School of Dentistry does not own video and editing equipment, so we ask that the technician either have their own or can gain access to equipment, or with approval from the Marketing and Communication (M&C) team, rent equipment through UW.

If rentals are required, the successful applicant will work with M&C to determine what is needed.

In addition to a video, we are interested in capturing high-quality images of the new space for use on the web and in printed materials.

Photography skills are a plus.
The ideal candidate must have proven ability to capture, edit and create compelling video and photographs (examples or portfolio requested); be able to learn and apply UW Brand guidelines to photography and video work; possess excellent communication skills; be flexible to work during times when clinics are free and open (potentially evenings or weekends if necessary for shooting); and have a high level of accountability and professionalism.

Having access to video and photo equipment (camera, audio and editing equipment) for capturing photos and video is ideal.

UWSOD has access to video editing software, if needed.
Duties & Responsibilities Create a video plan that introduces and highlights new space and its impact on learning and patient care, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team.
Schedule and film the various shots gathering all necessary shots and interviews (if required).
Edit the footage and follow the UW Brand guidelines for the final product, incorporating graphics and music.
Coordinate with the M&C team throughout editing and review to ensure it meets the needs of the school.
Produce the final video in a sharable format.
