Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer Job Opening In USA Air Force Acad – Now Hiring GovCIO


Job description

**Overview**

GovCIO is currently hiring a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer to implement, manage, and support a Microsoft Hyper-V 2025 virtualization environment with GPU-enabled VDI.

The engineer will be responsible for building, migrating, and sustaining virtualization platforms, backup solutions, and VDI infrastructure to support high-performance workloads and simulation environments.

This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will be an onsite position.

**Responsibilities**

**Virtualization & VDI Operations**

+ Install, configure, and manage Microsoft Hyper-V 2025 hosts and clusters with GPU-P and DDA.
+ Set up and administer System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
+ Deploy and manage ephemeral and persistent VDI environments (Microsoft RDS).
+ Support GPU-enabled workloads for simulation/graphic intense software
+ Implement Remote Desktop Broker or broker equivalents

**Migration & Maintenance**

+ Perform VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations using tools such as MVMC, virt-v2v, or Admin Center conversion.
+ Validate migration workflows, cloned VM testing, and end-user acceptance.
+ Maintain backup and recovery solutions such as Altaro VM Backup or Azure Backup Server (MABS).

**Monitoring & Automation**

+ Implement monitoring and reporting tools.
+ Use Ansible, PowerShell, or SCVMM automation for provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
+ Support endpoint delivery and management through Stratodesk NoTouch OS thin clients.

**Support & Troubleshooting**

+ Provide Tier 2/3 support for VDI users and simulation systems.
+ Diagnose and resolve issues across virtualization hosts, storage, networking, and GPU-enabled sessions.
+ Ensure system performance, stability, and uptime across production environments.

**Qualifications**

High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

+ Clearance Required: None
+ Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset.
+ Ability to operate independently in mission-critical environments.
+ Must be collaborative and work well in teams of varying skills
+ Clear documentation and communication skills.
+ Mentorship and training of team members and stakeholders
+ Adaptability to evolving virtualization technologies and workloads.
+ Strong expertise with Microsoft Hyper-V (2019/2022/2025) including GPU-P and DDA.
+ Hands-on experience with Microsoft RDS or other enterprise VDI solutions.
+ Knowledge of VMware-to-Hyper-V migration tools and processes.
+ Proficiency with backup/DR solutions (Altaro, Veeam, MABS, or equivalent).
+ Familiarity with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Ansible, SCVMM).
+ Strong troubleshooting skills in virtualization, VDI, and GPU workloads.
+ Detailed Documentation and Standard Operating Procedure creation.
+ Extensive Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

Preferred Skills and Experience

+ Simulation software integration (DIS/HLA protocols).
+ Cisco Secure Firewall administration.
+ Experience with NIST 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, CIS, and STIG security configurations.
+ Monitoring with ELK/Elastic Stack.
+ Experience with Leostream Broker or Teradici PCoIP CAS.
+ Exposure to other enterprise VDI platforms (e.g., Citrix XenServer, VMware Horizon).
+ Certificates (MCSE, VCP, Security+) are a plus but not required.
+ Passionate about Video Games, strategy, and war gaming that is military influenced or designed.

**Posted Pay Range**

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity.

The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

**Posted Salary Range**

USD $110,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
