Position Responsibilities: The Volunteer and Intern Program Coordinator supports the agency's volunteer and internship program by recruiting, onboarding, engaging, retaining, and recognizing volunteers and interns.

This role also develops partnerships with external organizations to help grow volunteer and intern pipelines.

Essential Functions: (Core duties or tasks that are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the job)

  • Communicates and collaborates with departments across the organization to help identify opportunities and needs for volunteers and interns.

    Works in collaboration with departments to build position descriptions and hours required.
  • Supports external outreach efforts by helping maintain relationships with colleges, universities, community-based organizations, and other partners to promote volunteer and intern opportunities.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of and ability to communicate the agency's mission and vision to potential volunteers and interns.
  • Recruits volunteers and interns by using various outreach tools and strategies.

    Coordinates with Communications and HR to share opportunities through social media and other platforms.

    Attends volunteer and intern fairs as a program representative.
  • Supports the onboarding process by ensuring all required paperwork and training is completed.

    Facilitates orientations and program compliance.
  • Monitors and maintains volunteer inbox, responding as necessary.
  • Maintains and updates volunteer and intern program documentation, including guidelines and procedures.
  • Conducts telephone prescreening with volunteers and interns to understand their skills, availability, and goals, and assists in matching them with suitable roles within the organization.
  • Coordinates interview scheduling between candidates and program managers and supports the placement process with appropriate departments or mentors.
  • Maintains program records and systems, including the volunteer/intern database DonorPerfect, files, articulation agreements, and other data concerning the program.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating volunteer and intern appreciation efforts, events, and other recognition activities.
  • Provides regular check-ins with volunteers and interns to ensure satisfaction and alignment with program goals.

    Shares feedback with supervisors and identifies development or transition opportunities when appropriate.
  • Supports efforts to explore shadowing, mentorship, and learning opportunities within the organization.
  • Acts as a substitute driver for the Meals on Wheels program on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.

    Equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable, especially in volunteer coordination, customer service, or community engagement.
  • 1-3 years of experience coordinating human resources, volunteers, internships, outreach programs, or similar administrative or program support roles required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities or in community-based settings is a plus.
  • Must be flexible and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with database management preferred.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to represent agency at events during evening and weekend hours occasionally required.

Hours: 37.5 per week
