Overview

Writing Coach role at Delgado Community College.

Support students in college-level writing, reading, and presentation skills as they develop their voice, confidence, and academic goals.

This position offers hands-on experience in education and mentoring within a collaborative learning community, with supportive supervision and a strong team environment.

Coaches may develop and contribute to research in Writing Center Studies and post-secondary student support.

Responsibilities

  • One-on-One Student Coaching: Coach students in the processes of effective writing, college-level reading, and presentation skills
  • Support students in developing revision plans for their assignments and sustainable learning habits
  • Provide encouraging, constructive feedback that empowers students to grow as learners
  • Meet with students both in-person and virtually
  • Be part of a team that maintains a friendly, inclusive space where all students feel supported and affirmed
  • Connect students with additional campus resources when helpful
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Professional Development and Administrative Tasks: Complete required trainings toward CRLA/ITTPC Level 1 & 2 Tutor Certification
  • Maintain session records using the Center’s student information system
  • Complete daily documentation to help improve our services

Requirements

  • Strong academic writing background with demonstrated excellence in written communication; proficiency in MLA and/or APA style
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work with a variety of student populations
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite, and Zoom

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience in education, especially public post-secondary institutions
  • Proficiency with Canva, Google Slides, and/or Prezi
  • Experience with institutional student information systems

Compensation

  • $15/hour for Bachelors degree holders
  • $17/hour for Masters degree holders and above
