About the job:
The Area Leader is responsible for the overall success of our retail cafes and their teams for their specific area. Responsibilities include hiring, training and developing respective Cafe Leaders, ensuring all our guests experience exceptional hospitality, and leading all the cafe locations under your jurisdiction to be successful against our financial and operational goals.
You will
- Build amazing, passionate, high-performing retail teams, coaching our teams to success and continually inspiring and developing them to bring out their best
- Develop and empower a strong team of Cafe Leaders, Lead Baristas and Baristas whose work exemplifies deliciousness, hospitality, and sustainability
- Step in to help wherever needed (including working floor shifts, serving coffee, etc.) both to support your team and to stay rooted in our retail work and finding ways to improve it
- Ensure every retail location is an exemplar of hospitality toward our guests, and find new and creative ways to connect more deeply with the communities around our cafes
- Drive exceptional financial performance for each cafe through strong operational management and coaching Cafe Leaders to help each location succeed
- Advise on design of new retail locations and open new locations efficiently
- Exchange perspectives with other US-based retail and cross-functional teams and find ways to take the best from what is happening elsewhere at Blue Bottle and apply it to your teams and cafes
- Partner with our Production, Quality Control, Training, Culinary and Design & Development departments to ensure the excellence of everything we provide in our guest experiences

- An enthusiastic collaborator who loves drawing upon and learning from the input of others both in retail and across the company, and being part of something bigger than themselves
- Flexible and creative in problem solving - you roll with the punches and have fun doing it
You have
- 3+ years in retail management, with specific experience managing other retail leaders
- 3+ years managing the financial success of multiple retail locations (ideally more than 6)
- Ideally prior experience in coffee or food & beverage
- Strong verbal and written communication
- A love and respect of delicious coffee, food and amazing guest experiences
