Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Policy Approval Bureau (PAB) Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney V works independently and is considered a top expert in the legal field of insurance policy. The incumbent works on the most difficult and complex cases for the bureau and may act in a lead capacity over the work of other attorneys and staff. The incumbent shall: review and analyze the most difficult and complex insurance policy forms and related documents for compliance with statutory and regulatory standards; analyze and interpret the most complex statutes and regulations pertaining to these various types of life and disability insurance policies in response to inquiries from the public, insurance industry, legislators and other Department personnel; analyze and draft regulations and legislation; complete the most complex special project/assignments, and make recommendations to the Assistant Chief Counsel. In addition, the incumbent assists the Assistant Chief Counsel with other bureau operations and daily functions. Occasional travel is required within and/or outside the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.). Travel may include overnight stay.
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Working Conditions
