We're looking for a guru in building codes and compliance — someone who can guide development teams, ensure new products and assemblies meet the right standards, and serve as the go-to authority on regulatory requirements for both internal teams and external reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for building envelope systems, including Weather Resistive Barriers (WRB), Air Barriers, and Fire-Rated Assemblies.

  • Interpret and apply U.S. building codes and international standards, ensuring compliance across product development and manufacturing.

  • Provide guidance to development teams to design and test products that meet or exceed code requirements.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with third-party labs (UL, Intertek, ICC-NTA).

  • Develop collaborative relationships with code-governing organizations (ICC, ASTM, CalFire, TUV, British Standards Institute, etc.).

  • Participate in or contribute to standards-writing committees (e.g., ASTM E-05, ICC committees).

  • Navigate the listing process from concept through ESR/ESL approvals with ICC and other certification bodies.

  • Stay current on evolving codes, standards, and regulations in the U.S. and internationally (Australia, New Zealand, UK).

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • B.S. degree required (Engineering, Architecture, or related field).

    • M.S. degree strongly preferred.

    • For earlier-career candidates, a degree from a recognized program (e.g., University of Maryland – Fire Protection Engineering) is highly valued.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in building code compliance, building envelope systems, or related fields with a degree.

    • Alternatively, 10+ years of experience with proven participation in at least one standards-writing committee (ASTM, ICC, etc.).

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of building codes: IBC, IRC, IECC, IgCC.

    • In-depth knowledge of testing standards:

      • WRB, air barrier & moisture: ASTM E96, ASTM E331, ASTM E2178/2357, ASTM D1970/D226/D779.

      • Fire testing: ASTM E119, ASTM E2768.

      • Material-specific codes: AC310, AC38/AC148, NFPA 285.

      • Thermal & moisture codes: ASHRAE 90.1/90.2, ASHRAE 160, ISO 6946, ISO 10211.

  • Experience working directly with code organizations (ICC, ASTM, CalFire, TUV, BSI).

  • Track record of contributing to standards-writing committees.

  • Experience with the ICC listing process and achieving ESR/ESL approvals.

  • Background in engineering or architecture strongly preferred (no specific license required).

  • Excellent communication skills — able to "translate” technical codes for engineers, managers, and regulators.

Why Join

  • Opportunity to serve as the code compliance authority for a leading manufacturer.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on innovative building solutions.

  • Remote flexibility with travel that keeps you connected to projects nationwide.

  • Growth-oriented environment with strong industry partnerships.
