Position Summary:
This Engineering Technician Specialist position can be located at one of three locations - Shawnee/Kansas City Regional Materials Office, Wichita Regional Materials Office, or the Topeka Material Research Laboratory. The main purpose of this position is to sample, test, and evaluate materials that will be used in KDOT construction projects. This position will involve travel to Prestressed Beam Fabrication plants, Precast Concrete Plants, Steel Bridge Fabrication plants and KDOT construction sites.
NOTE: Employee must attain a Certified Welder Inspection (CWI) certification within six months of hire unless the time is extended by the Bureau Chief. The CWI must be maintained.

It is expected that this position performs his/her duties with minimal to no supervision. Inspection, testing, and/or sampling of other project related materials, including plain and epoxy coated reinforcing steel, concrete and corrugated metal pipe, fencing materials, cement, painted products, precast concrete products, fasteners, non-structural fabricated items, and galvanized products. Documents the work of the producer/supplier from raw materials to finished product ready for delivery to a jobsite. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications :
Five years of experience involving independent inspection work as a Certified Welder Inspector (CWI). CWI certification must be attained within six months of hire, unless the time is extended by the Bureau Chief. The CWI must be maintained. American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) Grouting Training Certificate must be attained within six months of hire, unless the time is extended by the Bureau Chief. The Grouting Training Certificate must be maintained. Preferred Qualifications :
ACI Concrete Field and Hardened Concrete Properties Certifications. Licensing & Certification :
Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment. Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
