By joining the Division of Forestry/Pineville Branch/Section I as a Forest Ranger Technician I in FloydCounty, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity ofnumerous forestry-related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During theperformance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily/weekly basis with not only the public, butwith branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.
Holders of the Forest Ranger Technician I position will complete tasks such as:
Performing wildland fire prevention, suppression, law enforcement, and related activities Conducting Timber Harvesting Compliance Inspections and Regulatory Enforcement Providing Forest Management Technical Assistance Performing forestry education and public outreach Desired candidate should possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: Ability to work independently Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills Proficient knowledge and use of information technology EEC provides opportunities for development and upward movement. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in the natural, biological, or physical sciences.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Forest management, forest protection, or related experience will substitute for the associate's degree on the basis of two years of experience for one year of education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this job classification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Work is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands. Work can be under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or when suppressing wild land fires. Adverse conditions could be present when assisting in all-risk emergency response when mobilized. Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs. Duties are typically performed within the Commonwealth of Kentucky; however, some functions may occur in other states. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS
