Position Summary
The UNM Health and Health Sciences Marketing andCommunications Department (MarComm) is looking for an exceptional graphicdesigner to support the UNM School of Medicine! The selected candidate will beon the MarComm team but will work directly with the School’s executiveleadership team as well. The selected candidate will focus squarely on theSchool’s marketing needs while working closely with a dyad partner who willsupport the School’s communication needs. MarComm is a highly skilleddepartment meeting the communication and marketing needs of UNM’s HealthClinical System and the Health Sciences academic and research units. The UNMSchool of Medicine is New Mexico’s only school educating and training MDs and awide variety of health professions.
Under limited supervision, designs and/or coordinates thedevelopment and design of a wide range of electronic and/or printed graphicmaterials, involving a variety of integrated steps and processes, and requiringextensive knowledge of specialized, multi-faceted design concepts and media.Creates complex, original graphic design and comprehensive layout concepts, andoversees and coordinates production of materials. May lead and guide the workof graphic designers and/or students.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces a wide rangeof specialized graphic and/or illustrative material, to include multimediaconcepts; writes and edits basic copy.
2. Works with clientele to ascertain needs and to developgraphic directions, concepts, and specifications for assigned projects.
3. Plans production schedules for the various steps in thedesign process; analyzes project development costs and develops project budgets andworkflow for multiple concurrent projects; participates in production and/ormarketing planning group sessions and meetings.
4. Identifies, selects, and coordinates vendors for printing andpublication services, as appropriate to the project; may write and processrequests for proposals for printing requisitions; identifies and recommendscontractors, printers, illustrators, photographers, and/or cartographers.
5. Oversees and coordinates the production process; developsand writes printing and/or other production specifications, and selectsappropriate production media and materials, such as ink and paper; inspectsproofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards.
6. Provides creative and technical advice and guidance, andserves as liaison with production personnel, authors, publishers, clients,and/or printing representatives on permission information, design and technicalgraphics issues.
7. May coordinate a graphics or photographic library and/ormaintain digital records.
8. May create and produce animated videos and animatedportions of live videos using computers and video production equipment.
9. May supervise and/or lead lower graded staff and/orstudent employees.
10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications• Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
• Ability to create and produce graphic materials using arange of media, methods, techniques, and equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectivelycommunicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diversecommunity.
• Skills in the utilization of specified computerizedgraphic design software and programs.
• Ability to identify and interpret graphic design needs anddevelop creative and responsive design concepts.
• Ability to develop complex, integrated design, printing,and/or reproduction specifications.
• Ability tosupervise and train assigned staff.
• Ability to compile and prepare graphic production budgets,schedules, and workplans.
• Knowledge of available external graphic design, printing,publication, and associated resources.
