Rockland County Department of Planning is seeking a candidate to perform professional and technical planning work of a complex nature, which involves responsibility for preparing, compiling and analyzing data for a variety of planning activities and projects, including conducting physical planning studies.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Reviews and makes recommendations regarding site plans, variances, zone changes, special permits and other land use, zoning, environmental actions, etc. to determine impact of proposed actions on resources;Engages in municipal and land use planning studies and prepares technical reports and/or drafts revisions to zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations and related land use areas;Meets with local planning agencies, officials, professionals and the public to discuss land use related changes, projects and studies.Ideal candidates should possess: Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of municipal land use planning;Good knowledge of organization and operation of municipal government;Good knowledge of subdivision design and site planning;Ability to interpret local zoning ordinances and related land use codes;Ability to use computer software, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for planning activities;Ability to supervise planning projects.Minimum Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree in Planning and 3 years of professional experience in regional, municipal, community or land-use planning; orA Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Building or Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or Social Science and 2 years of professional experience in regional, municipal, community or land-use planning; orA Master's degree in Planning and 1 year of professional experience in regional, municipal, community or land-use planning.Candidates can direct specific questions about this position to RCPlan@co.rockland.ny.us.
