The Department of Justice, Corrective Services Academy (the Academy) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is responsible for the identification and delivery of learning and professional development for all Corrective Services staff, including foundation, ongoing work skills, corporate governance and compliance and leadership development.
The Academy’s Operational Training Branch consists of five sections and is accountable for developing and delivering training in accordance with Corrective Services operational requirements, with a focus on foundation training for front-line staff working in custodial and community settings.
The Specialised Training Section is a Section within the Operational Training Branch responsible for the effective implementation of training strategies across topics such as (but not limited to) defensive equipment and techniques, incident response, fire and emergency procedures and first aid.
The Team Leader Specialised Training – Fire and Emergency informs and provides advice to the Manager Specialised Training on emerging issues and trends and leads a team of Training Officers to deliver high-quality Fire and Emergency training for identified Corrective Services operational client groups.
About you
You will assume a pivotal role in driving business and service delivery improvements and building a high performing team focused on delivering quality specialised training for operational client bases within the corrections environment.
You will be able to demonstrate experience in delivering a range of specialised training including but not limited to Breathing Apparatus, Fire Awareness, Provide First Aid and to monitor and evaluate these activities in a complex and highly regulated organisation.
You will be an excellent communicator and possess the capacity to network effectively to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external to the agency.
You will have demonstrated experience and skills in training delivery and possess or be progressing towards possessing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
You may be required to undertake intermittent travel and to work outside of normal hours.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Have a current C Class Drivers Licence and may be required to travel and deliver training state-wide at prisons and offices as required. Maintain any facial hair in line with Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009. Wear the designated Team Leader-issued uniform in line with Academy standards. Desirable:
Possession of the Unit of Competence Operate Breathing Apparatus. Possession of the Unit of Competence Provide First Aid. Demonstrated experience and skills supervising prisoners in custody. To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the contract.
