Overview Description: The Registered Apprentice program is administered through the Michigan Golf Course Association and the Department of Labor. This competency-based program is meant for those who are interested in a potential career in Golf Course Maintenance. On-The-Job Training: Apprentices will receive on the job (OTJ) and online training and education. Apprentices will be paid on a progressively increasing wage scale as they progress through the preset training and exam schedule. This will include all facets of Golf Course Maintenance from mowing and using hand tools to irrigation, mechanics and application of pesticides and fertilizers. Upon completion, the apprentice will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor and will be a Certified Pesticide Applicator through the State of Michigan. The times allotted to these various processes are the estimated times which the average apprentice will require to learn each phase of the trade. They are intended only as a guide to indicate the quality of the training being provided and the ability of the apprentice to absorb this training in an average amount of time.
